winds
down the side of the mountain
through the troll king's forest door
the cobwebs spun with fairy dust
from limb to ancient limb
a spider's walk of wonder this
twist and turn through a maze of vine
and weedy tapestry
the sunlight sparkles through the
dew-dropped leaves that light our way
listen
the crow's call cracks the quiet air
the wizard beckons—
our footfalls glide through a narrow
pass
close walls of stone, cold smell of salt
the steep descent
from the shadowlands
where earth becomes sand
and the green world
opens…
to the blue sky and the
vast impossibility of an uncrossable
sea.
