The Honeyguide Bird. Poem by Mike Berriman

The Honeyguide Bird.

The Honeyguide looks for a friend
The Humankind so she can send
An ally in sweetness, to rob the bee
A portion for her and one for thee.

The golden rule, you must share the find
To do less is not custom, nor is it kind
Many a man has suffered too
Refusing to pay the honeyguide due.

So in your travels across dry African land
You are led to a hive so near at hand
Remember to leave the honeyguide share
Lest misfortune follow you everywhere.
