The Inbetween Poem by Skyla Mitchell

The Inbetween

The In Between
I'm waiting in the doorway of your heart remembering all the times | let you down.
I know l've drifted with the messy tide
And played the lover, the failure then the clown.
I've used up every chance you've ever gave
I know I'm not the hero sent to save,
Just a someone who is there whenever your down
I know your silence better than my name,
The way you shut down when I get to close
I've messed it all up and I carry all the blame,
And yet I keep coming back because you feel like home
I love the man you are when you're alone, The one you hate, the one you try to break;
I'd offer up my blood and my bone To fix the year full of my mistakes.
I'm waiting for a sixth and final door, A sliver of the man that I used to know.
I've failed a thousand times maybe even more,
But I have nowhere left to go.
It you could let me in, just one last time,
I'd prove that I could finally be yours;
I could turn the longing and hope into reality
wash away the doubt and the cold brutality
But here I stand in the in between, Loving you still but trying to move on.
Caught in the dark of what we didn't see
I know I can't let go, but I cannot stay
The in between is where my heart remains
Im trying to find a way to walk away
While still relishing the love before the pain.
