The Lake Poem by Elizabeth Hobbs

The Lake

They ask if I am alright.
I say the waves calm me down.
They ask me, again, again.
I say the ripples calm me down.

She says it'll be okay.
I say all I need is the lake.
She says, "I'm so sorry".
I say all I need is the lake.

I feel trapped within the loss.
I say that I'm okay.
I am drowning in sorrow.
I say that I'm okay.

Do they believe me?
I said that the water helped
They finally leave me alone.
I said that the water helped.

They think the pain is gone,
But the water still flows within me
As I jump, to meet with my father again.
