The Last Flower Poem by Laurence Overmire

The Last Flower

Be eternal
make no mockery
of your brief
splendid time
poised in perfection
on the cusp of this
green Earth's last
forgiving grace

your enchanting aroma
lingers yet
tucked in that ebbing space
of fleeting consciousness

just beyond the grasp
of unyielding human
fingers

the kiss of death
was never so sad
and so sweet.
