The Last Word Poem by Cat Windham

The Last Word

Laying here gasping my last i think only of you
The true man behind the eyes so cold and cruel
Perfect and blameless you will always be
Yet you feel the need to torture yourself for eternity
You had no need to hurt yourself like I did
For you have been found the truest of all men
So sweet and loving behind that cruel shell
Yet so sorrowful for none know you well
I regret my choice to die, for I wish to hear your voice
Even though I shall never be the girl of your choice
All I need to know before I leave this life
I need to know that you have no more strife
No more troubles, no more tears
For once I leave, I can't destroy your fears
But alas, Death has his cold grip on my throat
And he cares not to let me see the one I love most
I truly regret using the cold sharp blade
But I thought for once I could end the pain
My breaths are shorter, my lids are heavy
Yet a tear manages to escape just barely
Although I wish for you to hold me in my final hour
I know that you will never love me, yet I stay under your power
And as I feel my last breath I use it well
I uttered your name before the darkness fell
