The Letter Poem by David Orozco Jr

The Letter

Dear Beloved:
I hope you are doing alright,
I miss you!
I think of you every night.

lately,
we have being marching forth,
battling our way through,
enemy lines,
resting little at the time,
becomming smaller,
as we move on.

many times we ask ourselves,
what are we fighting for,
as our hands,
become stain with fresh blood
from holding dying friends, comrades,
or strangers unknown.

under the cover of darkness,
under the moonlight,
boys become men,
the horrors of war,
has stolen our youth,
and each one of us,
stare into the night sky,
for perhaps,
our last time.

Many with a bottle of whiskey,
drinks themselves to sleep,
attempting to forget,
this nightmare,
that we soldiers get to see.

others write to their love ones,
just to kill time,
telling them either,
I'm sorry,
I miss you,
I love you,
look after our kids,
or the family cat or dog,
because I may not make it back.

Tomorrow we move forward,
and this may be my last chance,
to tell you all the things,
I want to say,
remember me,
and all our memories we have,
I will always be with you,
I love you,
..remember that;
I will always be by your side.

Yours Forever; (pause)
