The Life! Poem by Emeka Joseph Nnakwe

The Life!

When I was younger
Daddy often emphasize the need for hardwork
IYA ATI BABA RISIKA do indulge on good virtue
Good virtue pays they say
Oh, I got more of that from my Sunday school teacher
Then came those gifts when I top my class
Never knew all was but stillness before the storm
Immagine it could be these lie after being so true!
So ORE MI ATATA wrote to me

I fought the hurdles
Work, work and work harder!
IYA AZEEZ, your son is upholding the precept
But the harder I fought the odder it had gotten
I really felt like giving in to those monsters' whispers
I slept hoping we had gone back to the days when virtues are celebrated
MI OLE WA JE IYA PELU OKINRIN KANKAN
ABIKE told me that before leaving!
Is there really light at the end of this tunnel?
Will I ever get pass this junction?
This questions my predecessors' teachings.
