The Life Forgotten Poem by Skylark Woodrow

The Life Forgotten

In days of eld,
Before computers,
Phones,
Cars,
And even trains,
People did extraordinary things.
They would gather food from the land to cook over fires,
Drink from the brooks,
And sleep under the stars without fear of the night.
They fought for their land,
As well as for their life;
Battling not only with the forces of nature,
But also with the forces within.
They were strong,
Hard-working,
Determined,
Courageous;
The land had made them thus.
They were survivors in every sense of the word.
Many of them might not have known how to read,
Nor write,
But they could sew,
Weave,
Spin wool into yarn,
Cut down trees and build their houses,
Grow or find food for their families.
They lived,
They truly lived and valued the time they had here on this earth,
And the time they had with each other.
Today their way of life has been forgotten;
As if perhaps it never existed.
Without our gadgets and gizmos what would happen to us?
Would we be able to make a proper fire,
Gather; or even grow our own food,
And work with our hands?
What have we become?
In reality have we lost what they fought so hard to gain?
