The Loud Poem by Joan Hart

The Loud

I miss
The loud
The loud of children
Growing
Loving
Laughing
Fighting
Learning
We’ve settled into
A quiet -
Changes like tremors beneath us
Silent, this earthquake
Gently shifting our foundation
Shaking the ground we walk on
The time of
A bustling, happy, chaotic
Community
Is gone
And I find myself
Lost in the white noise,
Dizzy with remembering
Aching
To go back
