My Biggest Downfall Poem by Joan Hart

My Biggest Downfall

Your eyes lead to places
As cold and hard as stone
Your stubbornness leaves you
Destined to be alone
And your mouth lashes out
Such harsh, hateful things
Selfish encampment
Your icy lair brings

Looking at you
Brings such hatred to me,
I clench at my fists
To not lash out at what I see
But the worst part of all
Is when I look in the mirror
It’s my biggest downfall,
I’ve begun to see you here.

What I hate
Is what I am,
There is no denying.
In my reflection, I can see
You are underlying
Yes my eyes, they’ll now lead
To places cold and hard as stone
And there’s no doubt it’s destiny
For me as well
To be alone.
