~the Mask That Is Me~ Poem by George Papa

~the Mask That Is Me~

A masquerade has been my life.
Without meaning, full of lies.
Loneliness my only friend.
Will this ever end?

It has shielded me from pain.
Hidden the naked truth.
Deep underneath,
behind the mask lies me.

A burden heavier than I can carry,
for as long as I can remember,
pushing others away,
but no more.

Can I be free?
Can I find myself?
I who lie beneath the mask?
Can it be shattered?

No, I cannot prevail alone.
My only hope?
A force fiercer than the most savage of beasts.
With its help, I shall finally be free,
of the mask that is me.
