The Metaphor Of The Pigeons Cooing Poem by RIC BASTASA

The Metaphor Of The Pigeons Cooing

pigeons live inside the ceiling
taking the entrance at the broken side of the gutter

i can hear them coo

some eggs hatch and some fledglings
are cooing

one day i have not heard of them anymore
and the rats are singing

like pigeons cooing
these rats wanting to get attention

tomorrow i will take away the gutter
so the pigeons will know that we are missing them
