The Midnight Hour -For Mr. Uhlan Leander. Poem by PHIL WINTER

The Midnight Hour -For Mr. Uhlan Leander.

As the aging, setting sun
Closes off the light of day
So the darkness ushers in
The midnight hour of our lives,
And weary souls fly away
To sleep and dream, unhindered
Amid the skies and clouds and stars;
Leaving bodies to wither and perish on the earth beneath.
The new souls meet and greet
Those who have passed before!
And now, in leaps and bounds
Must welcome them with open arms.
With eyes closed,
And lips that no longer speak earth's language,
These souls, both old and new
Keep the secrets of the grave
And never tell
Whether Death is a glimpse
Of heaven or of hell!
They remain separated from human reach
And rest eternally!
Your midnight hour has come
My friend Uhlan,
Has closed your earthly span
And for you, a new chapter has begun
In the distant celestial realm.
You will be missed!
Farewell Uhlan! Farewell!
