The Mind Game Poem by Francis Duggan

The Mind Game

Feel sceptical of the person who asks of you
Of your career in life and the job that you do
Or of how much money you receive in your weekly pay
She or he are being judgmental in a sly sort of way

And since it is obvious that you they are trying to pigeon hole
Perhaps you should tell them that you are on the dole
Which would make it easier for them to place you in their idea of the social rank
For their sort class distinction we do have to thank

The judgmental ways of their sort will be with them until they die
Telling them you are on the dole may well be a lie
Since those who judge you of your financial success
Are not the sort you should try to impress

Since they only help to uphold the social divide
And plenty of their sort of people Worldwide
To lie to such people is never a shame
With their sort you do have to play the mind game.
