The Mind That Asked For Rest Poem by Rajendra Prasad Meena Jaipur India

The Mind That Asked For Rest

Whenever I felt defeated,
my tired mind whispered,
"Stop… rest for a while."

It built a soft bed
inside my thoughts
and invited me to sleep.

But somewhere in my mind,
another voice kept knocking—

"Wake up.
Create something.
Do something new."

My comfort became a cage,
while my dreams
stood outside the window,
waiting for me to move.

I searched for popularity,
but found only an empty road.

Then my work spoke:

"Do not chase applause.
Let your work become your name."

For popularity may fade
like footprints in the rain,
but meaningful work
leaves its mark on time.

So I rose.

And every task I completed
became a small stone
in the monument of my life.

I learned—

Work may not always bring applause,
but it teaches the mind to rise;
it gives effort a voice,
and a life a direction.

My mind still asks for rest.

But now I answer:

but never make comfort
your permanent home."

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
"The Mind That Asked for Rest" explores the inner conflict between comfort and ambition. The mind seeks rest and safety, while another inner voice urges us to work, create, and move forward. Through imagery such as "comfort became a cage" and "dreams stood outside the window, " the poem turns an ordinary struggle into a vivid inner landscape. At its core, the poem suggests that recognition should not be chased directly; meaningful work should come first. Work becomes a way to build identity, discipline, respect, and lasting purpose.
