The Mortality Of Immortality Poem by Bancroft Boreland

The Mortality Of Immortality

Rating: 4.0

I am a man without a shadow
Sadness is the only clothes I wear
As I roam the earth, adrift in a world of tears
My life is life a word that has no meaning
And I am filled with an empty feeling
Now my days have no beginning and no end
I am as alive as the dead
My immortality is a curse
An unwanted gift I can never return
What is the purpose of living forever
If eternity values less than a day?

Is the value of life significantly less
When we are not faced with the inevitability of death?
A wise man knows that everyman is a fool
Because we all desire to live forever
Not knowing that the living often suffer more than the dead
And this, is the mortality of immortality

Only the comfort of death will make me feel alive again
But this I know shall never be...
