The Old Lady At The Doorstep Poem by Piedade D'Souza

The Old Lady At The Doorstep

Rating: 2.5

She sat at her doorstep staring at the road
Thinking of her loved ones that left her alone
Sorrows piercing her heart like the double edged sword
Hoping for love in their hearts to be grown
She awaited her children, they'd come to see her
And share warm hugs as she did when they were smaller
Hold them close to her bosom again
Tell them she loved before it were in vain

As I passed her house I could not refrain
So rushed to her to kiss her in the rain
She looked through her glasses and smiled at me
While I looked in her eyes there was fantasy
I asked my heart where was she (my grand mom)
Who had left us to rest in eternity?
And I prayed to God sincerely
To bring back the kids (grand kids) of the woman who loved so dearly

And so to you Oh reader do I urge and pray
That if you have a granny (mommy) this day
Be with her while she counts her last
For time will never favor the past
