We are asked to ask
That the Lord be with us
As our choice to be with Him
Yet the decision is against
Nature and ego
Tearing the heart and often
Family and friends that repel our
Longing to know the God
Of everyone, whereas it can only
Benefit broken lives
Broken hearts
And broken dreams
So we struggle hopeful, faithful
Alone in a world of derision
Set against the one
Who offers true comfort and
Peace that no human
Can create, only with time
Can we hold on
And wait until He is ready
For us to be ready
Not aware of the result
Nor the cause of such a plan
Can we ever fully overcome.
So at mercy do we cry
Against the tumult of the world
And it's hold on our nature
Oh Lord please help us
Either of blessings that we hope for
Or total abstinence of them
For only you know
that which brings us
Your peace and contentment
To our hearts and will ultimately
Give us more than
We hope for or deserve
Amen
