The One (With Maxwell Hogg) Poem by Mark Andrew Hogg

The One (With Maxwell Hogg)

I dont know what Id do if I was forced to choose,
even if I cut all my losses I would still lose.
all my questions are unanswered and Im losing my grip,
Im a natural born fighter but i know when to quit.
No Id never disrespect you or make you cry,
unless its tears of happiness that fill your eyes.
am I holding on to something that may never become?
sometimes weve got to say goodbye to the one.

cos I don’t know where I stand anymore with you,
through all the hardest times we still pulled through.
but now I feel as if I’m lost in your embrace,
it’s like I’m staring at a stranger when I see your face.
no don’t get me wrong, I don’t want this to end,
but how can you expect me to understand
how i don’t know what’s on your mind anymore?
i think it’s time I walked out that door.

It’s been a whole year and a couple of months,
It seems so strange how we’ve lost touch.
Are my questions still unanswered; did you write back at all?
Is your number the same? You don’t return my calls.
You’ve got a whole new life, and a whole new man -
And a whole new love, I guess I understand.
But Is it okay with you, if I just tell you this;
It’s not the money, the cars or the old friends I miss.

It’s the times I shared with the girl of my dreams,
And now I can’t help being caught in between.
It’s time I gave it in, it’s time I let you go.
It’s time I give it up, and carry on with the show.
Put on my biggest smile, walk out on to that stage,
Round them up, knock them down and let them see my face
Until I see you there, at the front of the crowd
And I get lost in your eyes and I break down.

I know no-one has the power to unlock the past,
I’ve got to do what I can to make my own future last,
And even though I know things will never be the same,
I think it’s time for myself to begin again.
So for every little thing that you say or do,
There’s just one more thing I need to say to you.
I know I’m holding onto something that will never become,
And now I know it’s time to say goodbye to the one.

A heartrending love song that conveys the the pain of loving someone, letting them go and reaching a point of acceptance. An emotionally charged write that I am sure will strike a chord with many. justine.
