The Over Poem by Elizabeth Yenny

The Over

Don't cry it over the flowery ground, baby
I'm here standing next to you.
If an embrace is what you need right now, honey
I'm sorry it's something I'm no longer able to do.

If I could travel back in time,
I would hold you tight, serve you right;
goodbye was never my thing.
And when it's still not enough to fill the rhyme,
I'd touch, I'd kiss, I'd linger,
I'd do anything.
But the time is just as cruel as it always be.
It runs when you need it stop,
it stops when you wish it knocks.

Don't blame it all to the ground, baby.
I'm there but my heart is where it always be,
you see...
If I am the thing you need right now, honey
I'm sorry it's something I'm no longer able to be.
