The Pact Poem by stephen roe

The Pact

There are several ways to seal a pact:
With words most accurate and exact,
Stiff backed by unemotional feelings,
These promises half-baked in ignorance
And resulting from the fatal inability to act,
Mere gestures and inferences made towards
Something vague and incoherent,
The eyes will still finally close, eventually blink.
Not possessing this ability to act rationally
Or even to think clearly, my actions
And thoughts for the evening ahead
I cannot guess.
I’m open to: the casual, the loose,
The misconstrued, the obtuse
And the hangman’s noose.
Save me,
Confuse me,
Endanger me,
I’m open to whichever you chose.

Stephen, I enjoyed your use of rhythm - and the patterns and effects it creates.
