The Peace Inside Poem by Dan Michaelson

The Peace Inside

I wish I had the peace inside.
A calm once knew, at my side.
My fondest wish, I must confide.
A wish is that, not real just tried.
I take things in,
To make me feel.
The peace I want,
Fake or real.
One cannot ask for anything more,
precious no less or even more.
I do what is needed to find that space.
Drugs or God are in its place.
I wish this wasn’t really true.
That peace would come,
So I could do.
The things I want, the things I need.
Without the peace I am no good seed.
So with this admit, I must decline.
To lie to me, let alone thy divine.
I hope forgiveness, is in the cards.
I have no choices, I must try hard.
And now I close, with drugs in hand.
The night before, sober I stand.
Because of this I am alone.
The peace inside, is rarely shown.
