The People I Meet Have Died Poem by Carolyn Michael

The People I Meet Have Died

The people I meet have died
They shake hands
They shake fists
They chomp and chew
Fight and fuc
They type
They talk
Talk about nothing
Talk about rain
Talk about sun, talk
Talk about life and how it
Brings them down
They don’t know
That they have died
They died so long ago
While mowing their lawns
Or brushing their hair
Their teeth
The people I meet have died
But you haven’t
You made your way
Through handshakes
And meetings
And money and sex
And you came out clean
You feel moments and
Think beautiful thoughts
You see and hear
And know
But then again
I guess
Sometimes you just talk
