The Poet Poem by Imogene Wagner

The Poet

The poet with a blind man's strengthened sense
Sees beyond the veil of ordinary,
With the sharpened feel of living immense
And each pore a sponge-like tributary
That takes in pain and love and bleak despair
And carries it to mind and soul and heart,
Then having been refined by seeking prayer
And suffering, the revelating dart
Of ecstasy sweeps him above the earth,
And with his sudden insight into life
Comes words upon a page, Creation's birth
To undam feelings channel of its strife;
He feels beyond his knowledge and with pen
He dips in self to lift the minds of men.
