The Point Of Poetry Poem by Mary Champion

The Point Of Poetry

And when I understood enough of my affliction
I encoded it in verse -
cast it out into the world
and made space for my spirit to grow.

But sometimes I understood too little,
so the verse had no point -
too blunt to break through the barriers of ignorance,
it formed a gangrenous ulcer,
and ate me alive.
