The Pond Before Daylight Poem by Leather Sandal

The Pond Before Daylight

Rating: 5.0

This morning I got up out of bed about three
I know the hour seems horrific but I did it purposly
I splashed a bit of water on my face to more fully awake
Pulled on my jeans and blue checker'd shirt and had coffee to make
Soon I was out on the old wooden porch and felt the night breeze
The breeze was so refreshing and moderate I was very pleased
Over came my dog Spot to journey with me wherever I went
Hardly ever is their a day that together me and him is not spent
So off we start walking toward the pond about a quarter mile to go
The land is flat and short croped by the sheep when it grows
We get to the pond and I place kindling under a couple of logs
Place there yesterday when I was enjoying the sound of frogs
Soon there was the early morning flicker and soft night glow
Like the experience of man kind many generations ago
I just hundered down on the bank of the old pond and listened
The flames from the logs showed on the water and glistened
Stayed here for awhile me and old Spot just taking it all in
Nothing fancy to report just absorbed it all and left with a big grin
