Sitting on a hill
With my friend Bill
Pondering what life
Is all about, if not of values
What is its true essence
Where is man's magnificence?
The depth of values
Why were men born
If they have to die
Where are life's depths
What is pain without gain
What is the meaning of joy
Without the finality of happiness
The ponders of life.
To my friend, Bill
It is about the will
Of man to only survive
Amidst the vicissitudes of life
I disagree with my friend Bill
Could the purpose of life
only be survival?
Bill has got to be kidding me
Missing the real pondering
Why does the universe
Put her children through
In the cosmos merely to survive
And be forgotten after striving?
The ponders of life.
There must be a deeper
Explanation from the keeper
The man who knows
Why men were born, but Bill knows not
The true purpose
Of existence of life, without values
Pacing about in my human head
I encounter a man, the inner man
He declares: there is no other purpose
For mortal man under the sun
Other than serving his master
God, the universe with
True value addition to life
The ponders of life.
The inner man proceeds to say
That inner voice saved the day
In hushed tones
In baritone notes
Declaring that no man ever did so
Without ultimate pay
For the fulfillment it brings
Each day nears to values of life
For happiness Is worth more than
Wealth, on Earth
I turn to Bill with profound joy
With elevated happiness
Then, I discovered therein
The ponders of life.
I discover the true essence
Pondering in utter quiescence
The keeper declares the motive
The entire purpose of man
Is to serve humanity
The master, the universe
Man is one with the universe
God is one with the universe
The purpose of man
Is to serve God
There is no other way
To serve God, be of God
Without serving humanity
The ponders of life.
