The Pool Poem by Michael Arnold

The Pool

I remember that day by the pool
Your haunting eyes beckoning me
To join you in the icy depths below.
The promise of your cold embrace;
Alone with you in our marriage of death,
Eyes wide open, staring up at passers-by,
Lungs airless without breath.

I clutched the willow by the pool
And quickly took flight along a path
That led me back to school.
