The Present Poem by Joe Fraccalvieri

The Present

I was deaf
yet I heard their song of hope
and my mind was amazed by their words
that danced in my ears like music
and with every sound a color of the rainbow
and every drop of rain a kiss upon the earth

I was blind
but I felt their kindness guiding me
along tomorrow's promises leading me
toward bright directions
Their hands healing me
holding me away from danger
keeping me safe and protected
and darkness was alive with sights
that opened my eyes
as though they were doorways
to other worlds

I was hungry
and they fed me dreams

I was thirsty
and they quenched my spirit
until my soul was filled with life's delight

And they taught me how to smell colors
and how to see the wind while never using sight
They taught me how to touch the sky...
how to feel the morning and listen to the night

But most of all they taught me
the difference between wrong an right
