There Once Was A Bird Who Didn't Know It, Could Fly

Rating: 5.0

There once was a bird who didn't know he could fly
He didn't even know who he was… there were no others nearby
But then one day, as he looked up at the sky
He saw birds, like himself… There… Way up high

"How did they get there? "… He'd never seen them before
He didn't know why, and it puzzled him more!

One of them landed with a screeching cry
Both stood together in a moment of silence
Face-to-face… Eye-to-eye

But as quickly as it happened, the stranger left this place
Going back to the sky… up into space

The one on the ground looked left and looked right…
He looked all around, but there was no bird in sight…
Perhaps there were others who became earthly-bound
He looked and he looked, but there were none to be found
Just as before… He was all by himself, contemplating his plight
Lonely once more… Alone in the light

And then he recalled what the other had done
before he climbed to the clouds and rose toward the sun,
before leaving this world without so much as a trace…
He mimicked each movement… He measured his pace

He stretched out his wings and gave it a try
And that was the day, you might say…
That he learned how to fly

Remove the comma from the title! It does not belong!
