And if one day
the last shadow of the nafs
fades away—
dissolving like mist
before the rising sun,
as a thought
before the silent ground of Being—
remember this
without fuss:
I shall reclaim
the Primordial Beloved,
the One I loved most,
the One who has become
but a memory—
the memory
I have missed
from all eternity.
For the Beloved
was never lost;
the lover was.
And what is memory
but the soul's homeward flight
through the corridors of Time,
returning to the Timeless?
I am the drop
remembering the Ocean.
I am the ray
returning to the Sun.
I am the word
dissolving into Silence.
And the Beloved—
the Primordial,
the Eternal,
the One—
waits not in memory,
but in the eternal Now,
where all lovers
are one lover,
all shadows
are one light,
and all separation
is revealed
as Unity at play
with Itself.
