The Prince Of Virtue Poem by R.H. Peppers

The Prince Of Virtue

The son of a King
of good measure and God fearing
dared himself upon a quest
to rid the world of all wrong doing..

he would start with the poor
making each equal to Kings
in his sight it could only be right
as the grace of the Lord had so planned for his destiny

it so happen one day on his want to survey
distant lands of which he would make such plan of change
while crossing a passing
strong winds and thunderous crashing
of tall timbers and limbs met the fate of all his companions..

after questioning of the Lord
and praying for the lost souls
he had no clear way back
leaving him only the option to move forward

shortly along the path
he encountered an odd looking figure..
shadowy and rather large in size
of which appeared to wear a mask..

the Creature of oddly sort
questioned the Prince in a deep creepy voice..
…’who art thou? And for what reasons have thy come? ’

the Prince mustering enough courage..
saying he was son of such a King
from a land such a distance away..
then explained of his mission to change the world..

the Creature again spoke..
…’your tale is in no way uncommon..
that of the dragon slayer with noble deeds
yet in deed be the bigger monster…’

the Prince at once drew his sword then proclaimed aloud..
…’of such blasphemous words…
one must be asking one such as I to cut out thy tongue! ..
I am worthy of sound heart
and shall slay all that which I see wicked and dark! ..
it is by destiny that I must fix the wrong
in order they be made right’

‘HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! ’

the Creature laughed emphatically..
…’exactly the point ole certain Prince of Virtue..

….same sayth the cat that if he could
would turn all mice into mulch..
…’give it that one prefers cheese and the other birds of flock
one wonders why in the world the Lord built such a house..’’

the Prince withdrew his sword puzzled by this ordeal..
the Creature then insisted to ensure safe passage
that the gallant Royal answer a riddle..

having the feeling he hadn’t the choice
the Prince asked of the looming figure
…in somewhat a whimpering voice..

…’and this riddle is what? ’

The Creature recited such:
…‘how can a mouse play the role of a cat? ..
in that..
…the cat play the role of what the owl eat? ..
of a much longer strong chain these are all but equal links
..naturally in sync

so what if anything is truly being asked of your virtues? ..’
