The Promise Poem by Ryan Lee Morris

The Promise

Release you back to God.
It is time to set you free.
The pain of letting you go.
Hoping He’ll return you to back me.

I’ll always be right by your side.
With you or without.
One of us knows, it is very clear.
What true love is all about.

I see you when you walk out the door.
I want to scream “Please come back! ”.
My love for you grows every day.
As your love it fades to black.

You may feel the grass is greener.
You have found somebody new.
But when the trials begin again.
Will your new lover remain tried and true?

Is he strong enough to carry you?
In the times when you’ll get weak.
Will he tell you that he loves you?
Even when he does not speak.

From his battles he faced before,
This boy he stopped and ran.
The warrior, he stands, he stands to fight
I fight because I’m your man.

And when you need him to fight for you.
I’ll bet you he’ll be gone.
But your three soldiers we wait for you.
Our battle rages on.

We vow to fight another day.
You’re the one we love the most.
Our true love it won’t fade away.
Even though you’re like a ghost.

Our perseverance it proves we’re men.
You’re playing with a boy.
We look at you like you’re a gem.
To him you’re just a toy.

Did you give it up all too soon?
Just before you got the prize.
Did you realize the truths you seek.
Might be riddled full of lies.

When you look back at all you left behind,
Will you see things very clear?
Your pride is like a magician.
It made true love just disappear.

I wait for my lover to come back.
I’ll wait for my best friend.
I’ll wait for you in heaven.
When this painful life does end.

It hurts to wait here patiently.
Down my lonely path I roam.
The promise I made to the Lord above.
Was to walk with you back home.
