The Quiet Power Poem by Faith Cecelia Story

The Quiet Power

Rating: 5.0

Do not mistake my silence for surrender,
nor my stillness for the absence of fire.
I am the pause between storms—
the breath before thunder remembers its name.

I have learned the language of restraint,
how patience can outgrow fury,
how strength does not always roar—
sometimes it watches,
sometimes it waits.

There is power in the choosing,
in knowing which battles deserve your blood
and which deserve only your back.
Not every call requires an answer,
not every wound requires a war.

To the young eyes watching—
thinking loudness is courage,
thinking force is the only form of power—
come closer,
and listen to the quiet.

See how kindness does not crumble,
how love does not weaken the spine.
See how I bend without breaking,
how I endure without dissolving.
This is not softness—
this is mastery.

For endurance is not weakness,
and pain worn with grace
is not defeat.
It is the shaping of something unshakeable,
a soul tempered in unseen fire.

I retreat, yes—
but not to vanish.
I retreat to gather,
to mend,
to sharpen the edges of my spirit.

And when I return,
it will not be in noise alone—
but in presence,
in certainty,
in a quiet so powerful
it commands the room before I speak.

Like a lion in tall grass,
I do not need to prove my teeth—
only to know when to show them.

So remember this:
Silence is not emptiness.
Patience is not passivity.
And choosing peace
is not the absence of power—
it is its highest form.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This poem carries a quiet authority—it speaks to a kind of strength that isn't loud or performative, but deeply rooted and self-aware. At its core, it redefines power: not as dominance or constant reaction, but as control, discernment, and emotional intelligence. The central message is that silence is intentional, not accidental. It's a choice made by someone who understands their worth and doesn't feel the need to prove it at every moment. The poem gently teaches that patience and restraint are not signs of weakness, but signs of mastery—of oneself, one's emotions, and one's responses. There's also a strong mentoring tone woven through it. It speaks not just about strength, but for those who are still learning what strength looks like. It challenges the common belief—especially among the young—that being loud, reactive, or aggressive is the same as being powerful. Instead, it presents endurance, kindness, and thoughtful withdrawal as higher forms of strength. The imagery of retreat and the lion is especially important. It reframes stepping back not as defeat, but as preparation—an intentional pause before rising again, stronger and more precise. This gives the poem a sense of controlled intensity, rather than passivity. Emotionally, the poem balances softness and power beautifully. Love and kindness are not portrayed as vulnerabilities, but as conscious choices made by someone strong enough to remain gentle in a harsh world. Overall, it's a piece about self-possession—knowing who you are, choosing your battles wisely, and understanding that true power often speaks the least, but means the most.
