The Quiet Truth Poem by cassidy Lovato

The Quiet Truth

If you've read my words,
you may have wondered
why so many pages
carry old names,
old wounds,
old ghosts.

You may have searched
between the lines
for yourself,
questioning where you fit
among stories
that came long before you.

So let me tell you
the quiet truth.

None of them
are about you.

They are not comparisons.
They are not longings.
They are not doors
I wish were still open.

They are simply rooms
I have finally found
the courage to walk through,
switching off the lights
before leaving them behind.

Writing is not where I live.

It is how I clean the house
of my own heart.

The past asks to be remembered.
Not because I want it back,
but because I no longer want it
to carry weight it doesn't deserve.

You have never been
one of those weights.

You are the hand
that helped me set them down.

You have watched me change
without asking me
to become someone easier to love.

You stood beside me
while I learned
how to forgive,
how to heal,
how to trust,
and perhaps hardest of all,
how to believe
that I was worthy
of being loved so gently.

You taught me
that patience is not waiting,
but staying.

You taught me
that strength
can be quiet.

You taught me
that home
can be a person.

Every lesson I write now
is possible
because of the life
we have built together.

So if one day
you wonder
why I don't write about you
as often as the storms,
remember this.

No one writes warning labels
for the lighthouse.

No one journals
about the ground beneath their feet.

The constants of life
rarely ask
to be explained.

They simply remain.

And you have remained.

In every version of me.

Through every season.

Through every fear.

You are not absent
from these pages.

You are the reason
I survived enough
to write them.

If I spend the rest of my life
becoming a better woman,
it will never be
because you demanded it.

It will be because
loving you
has made me want to become
the fullest version of myself.

If I had to begin again,
not knowing where the road would lead,
I would still choose yours.

In this lifetime.

In the next.

And every one after that,
if there is such a thing.

Because no matter
how many stories I write,

my favorite one

will always be us.
