The Rape Of Poor Greece Poem by Damian Cranney

The Rape Of Poor Greece

The Rape of poor Greece

Hellenic Greece,
admired and respected,
The father of democracy,
but never really tested,

In its historical youth,
was always seeking the truth,
It's philosopher's taught us,
the why and the what,
their mathematicians taught us the how.

there orators used logic,
to avoid obfuscation,
Their play-writes the stage,
to inform the greek nation.

The centuries rolled by,
and it's moment in time,
passed by,
and turned into a political crime.

They joined a club of friendly traders,
not knowing that they, were
‘Political raiders.'
With bankers and bureaucrats, in collusion,
and, having given up their own constitution,
the land of Socrates and Homer would see,
A version of their own,
greek tragedy.

Move over aristophanes,
this farce just writes itself,
no need, for your heart to bleed,
put it back on the shelf.

The drama is enacted,
the deed has taken place,
You couldn't make it up,
you wouldn't be believed,
But for decades now, four in fact,
we all have been deceived.

The hemlock is administered,
the country is in mourning,
The reason for this hiatus,
finally now, is dawning,

The only way is out and up,
Drink no more,
from this poisonous cup,
friendship for Greece is,
everywhere found
Let not the anonymous Oligarchs,
furtively working like ravenous sharks,
Rob you of your precious ground.
