So very often
In nostalgic moments
He fondly remembers all
The bold friendship moves
Those affectionate gestures
All sublime songs she sang
And umpteen times she wrote
To salvage the relationship...

Then he regrets and repents
For his inaction and ignorance
In those fateful moments
When he failed to fathom
And timely respond
The calls of someone
Destined to remain
Most valuable in life
For all time to come.
