The Rhyme Of “mad” Lizzie Poem by Cecelia GrantPeters

The Rhyme Of “mad” Lizzie

Some people say that Lizzie’s “MAD”
But I think Lizzie is just sad
With husband AWOL and daughter gone
She smiles and sings
But they are wrong to say she’s “MAD”
But I think Lizzie’s sad, not “MAD”.

Some talk about her frizzy hair
But I think she is way out there
They wonder why she has Jheri curl or fro
But I say, Lizzie, way to go
They often say that she is “MAD.”
But I think Lizzie’s sad not “MAD.”

They do not notice her tired eyes
That smile that tells so many lies
Her constant singing, her white teeth grin
Designed to hide what lies within
They say that Lizzie’s just went “MAD”
But I think Lizzie’s sad, not “MAD.”

They moan about her Jheri Curl
They tease about her fro
They ask about her daughter
But Lizzie doesn’t know
But I think Lizzie’s sad, not “MAD”.

They use emotive words like
Challenged or mentally ill
But Lizzie has some wisdom
And mission to fulfil

She has an inner wisdom
Which only she could know
But all they seem to focus on is her Jheri curl and fro
They say that Lizzie just “went mad” a long long time ago
But I think Lizzie’s sad, not “MAD”.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This local lady is often called 'mad' but one day when I needed some wisdom and love, she gave me the best advice and a hug. There is clearly 'method' in her 'madness'......I love you Lizzie!
