The River Poem by Raghurama Raju

The River

I satiate your thirst,
I nourish your crops and all greenery
I help you reach places where
Regular vehicles can't venture
As I flow near a sacred place
People take a holy dip and feel pure!
I lull you to sleep with musical flow
When I am slow and shallow!
Then you heap praises on me -
A mother, an angel, a goddess!

If you obstruct my way,
If you resist my flow
Or don't care my strength
I become angry and uncontrollable!
I sink your silly boats
And bloat your bodies to float!
You curse me then - a devil, a demon!

I am neither a god, nor a devil, in fact!
Just a river, a body of marching water,
A tiny speck of potent nature!

I have a role to play!
And, at times,
My presence needs display!
