The River Has Its Song And I Have Mine. Poem by Christopher McInnes

The River Has Its Song And I Have Mine.

The heron waits so patiently, blue clad,
Amidst the verdant green of river’s side;
Quick water sparkles, laughing, heart so glad
To feel the sun illuminate its tide.

Sings now bright coruscating kingfisher,
Sings now the stream, in sweet babbling content,
Sings now the cuckoo, spring’s loud harbinger,
Sings now the lilac, with bee-witching scent.

But louder still sings my own heart, with joy,
For it resonates with a greater hymn,
The music of a softly chanting boy
And river’s beauty finds itself in him.

River’s creatures sing of earth’s delight,
My blissful soul is bathed in heaven’s light.
