The Road I’d Take

[Inspired by Robert Frost's The Road Not Taken]

'Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood.'
Much as this teasing toss-up I loathe
I shouldn't tarry, but clinch it with a precision.

Well, it depends upon my purpose and destination,
Upon my time, equipment, supplies united.
If my essential resources are but limited
I'll hit the beaten track like a Telemachus.

If I'm in no hurry, with resources adequate,
I'll take the road less travelled, focus every locus
And widen my horizon like a Ulysses consummate.

Should I, however, realise this trail isn't worth its while,
I'd sure seek an interlinking crossroad whatever the mile,
And swerve on to the more travelled course;
Or make a U-turn and return to the forked source,
And with renewed vigor amble along the other arm,
For 'Never stop, but keep on moving' is a good norm.
