I walked upon the common path that was laid out for me
And as I reached the farther end, I could see, another road,
My thoughts spread their wings;
for I imagined the life, I would have had!
Had I stopped to think, at the beginning,
When the two roads had diverged.
Many passions roused and enlivened the dreams of the little girl, so wild;
Some of them, though, I had realised;
But in that moment, good was not what I wanted to see.
My mind as mind does, played me a fool
And made me think of all that I had missed;
Just looking at the other road.
As I looked a little more,
the mind pushed me to explore!
'You are still young', the devil said,
'And the world is open to you'.
'You can get whatever you wish for not everyone gets a chance'.
I would have been tempted, but
wisdom also, has its voice,
If we are prepared to listen.
Through ups and downs along my path,
I have always felt satisfied.
There has never been any regret
for all that came by.
Though the one not travelled always tempts,
I shall still walk the one chosen by time.
