The Road to Freedom
I left beneath a restless sky,
With little more than hope to carry,
A thousand questions in my heart,
And memories I could not bury.
Behind me stood the silent streets,
Where dreams were measured, words were watched,
Where every door could close too soon,
And every freedom came at cost.
I walked through nights without a map,
Through fear that whispered, Turn around.
But somewhere past the darkness,
I believed that freedom could be found.
I carried stories from my home,
The faces I could not forget,
The courage of those left behind,
And promises I hadn't met.
Then came a morning bright and clear,
A different wind, a wider sky.
For the first time, I could speak,
And choose the road on which I'd fly.
Freedom was not a golden gate,
Nor was it free of pain or scars.
It was the right to shape my life,
To reach, to hope, to count the stars.
And though the journey changed my soul,
I would not trade the road I've known.
For every step away from fear
Was one more step toward calling freedom home.
