The Road To Heaven Poem by Kevin Patrick II

The Road To Heaven

Rating: 5.0

Its a funny old proverb
But it bares its truth
That the road to hell
is paved with good intentions

But what is never said
And swept under the carpet
Is that the road to heaven
is paved in the blood of the innocent

Ask the native children
Who were "protected" by the priest
When they graveyards for infants
and the lambs that they slaughtered

Or all the young girls in Ireland
Beating down by the good sisters
For paying the debts of men's lusts
And having their cherubs taken from them

Then consult the slaves of Africa
Born in chains of Mohammad and Christ
Saved by the charity of missionaries
Made a killing in the name of their prophets

Then add the holy wars and the crusades
The witch trials and the inquisitions
The massacres of moselems, jews and pagans
And you'll wonder who Jesus has saved

Watch how the children of Abraham
Spread like a cancer they called faith
Reducing the world into a holocaust
So they could be saved in paradise

So in the end the road to hell
Has less blood then the road to heaven
And route of a good Christian soldier
Leads to a highway of endless slaughter

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I do believe in Jesus as a role model, unfortunately I cannot help but see how many horrible things have been conducted in his name and the atrocities committed by people who called themselves Christians

Kevin, that's why I had stopped going to church. The hypocrisy of history was too much to bear! You've summed it up so painstakingly clear in this brilliant poem. That being said, I'm proud to be a Christian. And to serve God through the gifts he has given me.
