The Rooster Rouses Me Poem by Day Williams

The Rooster Rouses Me

The rooster rouses me before dawn,
The pig oinks as I put my clothes on,
The neighbor dog barks as I eat,
The horses neigh, I salt the meat,
The cat meows, I start the car,
The pigeons coo, I drive to the bar,
The chickens cluck, I drag you out
The geese honk above as you pout,
The porch dog barks, I put you in bed,
The parrot squawks, the sky stays red.
