The Rose Poem by James Waters

The Rose

God looked down upon his work
A thought came to his mind
Of how to show the entirety of love
In a single thing, divine

And the rains came lightly down

He looked at many things of beauty
The Sunset, the Waterfall, the Swan
He searched the whole of earth
Overnight, until the dawn

A fledgling leaf broke through the soil

Our lord, lost in thought
Walking this way and that
Weary of his search
Finally he sat

Behold a single bud, did reach for the sun

Our father closed his eyes
On a hilltop beneath the sun
He dreamed of the instant
His work would be done

And the flower opened

There beside the King of kings
Just inches from his nose
The answer to his quest
A single perfect rose

And the creator smiled
He said, “It is done”
“This is the symbol of my love”
And he ascended toward the sun

As you gaze upon a rose
with its variety of colors
You gaze upon the love of God
A gift to his sons and daughters

Hello James Waters...your name caught my attention as mine is Ruth Walters: -) I loved you poem, so peaceful and gentle and I read it just as I would have listened to it at my mothers knee all those years ago. She was such a good story teller. Thankyou for the tale and the nostalgia, it relaxed me and I am so tense these days. Ruth: -D
