The Runner Poem by David Oladipupo Olorunshola

The Runner

For every runner; in shoelace
Desires to run and win the race
For some, only inspired and joy
To participate; not to be disgrace
But the race is not to the swift;
You could be swift and still drift
Sometimes, a matter of design
Other times, a bit of intended sign
And you wondered; in the lair
You are the best amongst your peer
You could shrug your shoulder indifference
Determined to become prominence
Opportunity to run in a race;
The tonic some need to make first place
And become a champion of renown
And for some it may turn out to be,
Lubricant for the making of a star.
Whatever the case, rules matter
Run within its confines to be qualified;
That you may not be disqualified.
Do not aspire to win laurel at all cost;
You may end up perspiring at no cost.
You will do well to guard yourself
Your opportunity will come on a platter
And the chance to show cases a star.
