The Second Amendment Poem by Jeffrey Obomeghie

The Second Amendment

When the shooting starts
It won't matter who is shooting
Or why
What will matter is that you run or hide, or shoot back

When the shooting starts
It won't matter who is right
Or wrong
What will matter is that you stay alive
Instead of buried deep in the dirt

When the shooting starts
It won't matter if you asked to be involved or not
Whether you are a sinner or a saint
Because bullets cannot tell wrongdoers from Samaritans
And the tongue of fire will kiss both the innocent and the guilty

When the shooting starts
It won't matter what the pundits say
Or the politicians won't say
What the Founding Fathers said
Or the Supreme Court will say
200 years along
What will matter is that children are dead and dying
And their mothers are sad
and crying

When the shooting starts
It won't matter whether you are black, white, Asian, Hispanic, or other
Whether you are gay, straight, trans, cis, or other
Whether you are a Republican, Democrat, or Independent

When the shooting starts
It won't matter who is shooting
Or why
What will matter is that you run, or hide, or shoot back
