The Selfish Children Poem by Amit Saha

The Selfish Children

Rating: 5.0

With wrinkled hands and tired eyes,
They sit alone and wonder why,
Their children, once so young and bright,
Now seem to have forgotten their plight.

No longer do they come to call,
Or bring them flowers in the fall,
Their once vibrant home now still,
As they sit alone, no one to fill.

Their memories are all they have,
Of times when life was not so sad,
But now the days are long and cold,
And they sit alone, growing old.

The children who they raised with love,
Now seem to have forgotten thereof,
Their duty to care for those who gave,
Them life and love, so strong and brave.

The sadness in their eyes is clear,
As they wonder why their children disappear,
Leaving them alone, with no one near,
To share their pain and wipe their tears.

Oh, children, please do not forget,
The love and care that you were set,
To give to those who gave you life,
And brought you up with love and strife.

For one day, you too will grow old,
And need the care that you were told,
To give to those who came before,
And loved you always, forever more.
